How VINCI Energies made ISO 27001 certification a competitive advantage
VINCI Energies
Cybersecurity Consultancy Services on ISMS according to ISO 27001

Cybersecurity is obviously fundamental to all these activities, which is why VESI has chosen to obtain ISO 27001 certification. A major project, carried out hand in hand with the Advens team. ISO 27001 certification for a dual objective: increased competitiveness and increased skills There were no regulatory constraints pushing VINCI Energies Information Systems to certify its security management. The idea was rather to allow: - the group’s companies to differentiate themselves from their competitors - the security team to continue its ramp-up The cybersecurity roadmap was already based on a self-assessment of security activities with respect to the ISO 27001 standard. Initiating the certification process made it possible to look at its application objectively. A project team rich in expertise Certification means organisation. A ‘compliance’ project manager is hired to carry out this certification and act as guarantor of the Information Security Management System (ISMS). In addition to this recruit, the operational director of information systems (DOSI) chooses to approach a specialist in security audits and ISO 27001 support. The Advens teams are thus mobilised to guide VESI in its approach. The challenge: 12 months to obtain ISO 27001 certification! The project has been launched. Bertrand Leclerc and Dominique Tessaro, CIO of VINCI Energies, establish a roadmap with a deadline: VESI has 12 months to obtain its certification! A tight schedule, in which Adven’s role is decisive. A strong need for project support The team, made up of four Advens consultants, the VESI project manager and Bertrand Leclerc, was able to rely on the expertise of two confirmed ISO 27001 specialists. They conducted the internal audit, prior to the certification audit. The most critical point, besides working on security procedures? It was undoubtedly to getting all VESI employees to join the project. The importance of management support Bertrand Leclerc and the project team worked to explain the project and encourage commitment. But they had a strong ally: the active sponsorship of their CIO. And the result was more than satisfactory: VESI was awarded certification with flying colours, with no discrepancies reported by the auditor. An extremely rare verdict.
CERT intervention to manage a ransomware attack
French Department of Vienne
Incident Response Services CERT CSIRT

After being attacked by ransomware, the services of a French local authority called on Advens to control the attack, limit its impact, recover data loss, and protect them from any future attacks. It’s Thursday, January 21, 2021. All computers are down and the telephone network is severely disrupted. The signs of a computer hack are evident. Time is running out for the county council of the French Department of Vienne: little by little, a CryptoLocker malware has encrypted the authority’s various files! With corrupt backups, HR systems affected, and road management systems infected, ANSSI is called to the rescue. Advens then intervenes via videoconference, during the weekend, and two experts come on-site to manage the cyberattack. Ransomware attack: challenges and issues The local authority needed quick and effective assistance to deal with this attack, to control it and then to rebuild a sound information system so they could resume their work. CryptoLocker malware is ransomware, a type of virus that mainly infects the computer systems of local authorities and ministries, but also private companies. To stop the encryption and return the data, hackers demand a ransom. Our teams’ intervention Systems compromised by ransomware require a high level of responsiveness from incident response specialists. The three strengths of Advens’ support, according to Luis Manuel Da Silva, Director of Digital Transition for the French Department of Vienne? - Quality of management, assistance and incident response operations - Meticulous, rigorous work - Team availability After the attack and intervention: the results Following the intervention of the Advens CERT, the departmental council was able to rebuild its systems and start again on a healthier basis. Beyond the technical aspects, the support in this kind of intervention has a very important human dimension. This kind of ransomware attack paralyses a whole community and all the services that depend on it. The teams’ stress level is therefore quite substantial. It is the role of our experts to support and reassure them, both professionally and empathetically.
