Dear Paul, how would you describe Adva Network Security in 3 quick-witted words?
Innovative, powerful, future-proof.
Now please introduce yourself briefly and tell us something about your background.
I’m Paul Kogelheide, Key Account Manager Cyber Security at Adva Network Security. I have a degree in business administration with a great interest in IT and cyber security topics. In my professional career in IT security so far, it has always been about establishing an exchange among end users and with providers and thus finding the best solutions for individuals or even for many together. I have focused primarily on SOC services and penetration testing.
What makes Adva Network Security stand out?
Adva Network Security stands for powerful, future-proof solutions in the areas of network technology and IT security. As a leading German cybersecurity company – emerged from ADVA Optical Networking and now part of Adtran Holdings, Inc. – we have been providing innovative security solutions for over 15 years.
Our customers from critical infrastructure, the public sector, defense and the private sector appreciate our in-depth technical expertise in network technology and information security in equal measure. In order to always guarantee the highest quality and to be able to react flexibly to requirements, we also work closely with specialized partner companies.
A key part of our corporate philosophy is continuous investment in research and development. With a focus on future-oriented technologies, we are actively shaping the security solutions of tomorrow.
How does Adva Network Security help companies?
We support companies in protecting their network infrastructures against cyberattacks and espionage. Our solutions enable end-to-end encryption of data traffic, ensure the integrity of critical infrastructure, and ensure secure communications – whether in data centers, cloud environments, or when transmitting data over long distances.
We pursue a holistic security approach from network encryption at Layer 1 and 2, monitoring of all data traffic with our 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) service, and penetration testing that assesses your infrastructure from the perspective of potential attackers.
What do you perhaps see a little differently from prevailing opinions in the field of cyber security?
Many organizations rely solely on perimeter-based security, but in an increasingly connected world, it’s not enough. Network security must be an integral part of the overall IT strategy, with a focus on encrypted data transmission, traffic monitoring and zero trust concepts. The danger of eavesdropping attempts and manipulation of network nodes is particularly underestimated.
Which security tool categories do you think are overvalued or undervalued? For example, would you invest in an NDR or an EDR system first?
Many companies underestimate the importance of end-to-end network security. While EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) is important for endpoints, NDR (Network Detection and Response) plays a critical role in protecting the entire infrastructure. I would first invest in a robust network security strategy, including encryption and intrusion detection at the network level.
What’s next – What’s on your technical roadmap, what are your plans?
We are working on even more powerful encryption solutions that can withstand future quantum computer threats. In addition, we are increasingly focusing on the automation of security processes and the optimization of our solutions for high-availability networks in critical infrastructures.
